Portraits

The Portrait Series can be considered a magnification of the elements introduced in the preceding Tribe and Blaze series.  It explores the personal realm of the individual by visually deconstructing the individual from the inside out.

While the forms articulate a network of modern infrastructure, the developed language of circles and Xs used throughout the related Tribe and Blaze series are accompanied with handmade markings that create new visual constructions.

The Portrait Series embraces intimacy not only with the markings of past works, but also with found elements placing the individual within a contemporary context.

Blaze

Inspired by “blazing,” the historic practice of marking routes through the wilderness, the Blaze series utilizes markings as navigational tools that aid and show direction. Comprised of crosses, circles and bands, these markings, or “blazes”, encourage further exploration, intersecting boldly in undefined environments that pave new paths. This series is a natural progression to my Tribe series, which focuses on the marking of the individual.
